JRok: Hello, I’m Angel with JRok Music, and today we’re chatting with singer Shamel Pilar. Hello, Shamel! Thank you for joining us today. How’s your morning?

Shamel: Good morning!

JRok: To start, I’d love to know a little more about your journey and your music. When did you first start singing, and how did your musical journey begin?

Shamel: Good morning. I’m Shamel Grace Pilar. I started singing when I was a kid. My mother would always take me to karaoke, and I loved singing whenever I had a chance.

When I was in grade four, I think I was around 10 or 11 years old. That was when I started singing more seriously and joining singing competitions. Now, I’m also a member of our university chorale.

JRok: What was your most memorable experience from joining singing competitions?

Shamel: My most memorable singing competition was when I was in grade 10. That was when I joined a singing competition again after stopping for several years. Luckily, I won that competition. It was memorable because that was when I regained my confidence, and it reminded me how much I love singing.

JRok: What is one thing you learned from your choral experience that you still apply to your singing today?

Shamel: Before joining the university chorale, I was singing, but I didn’t know my vocal range. When I joined the chorale, I discovered that I am a soprano.

I learned the importance of listening and blending with others. Singing in a choir taught me that singing isn’t just about my own voice. I also need to work together with my fellow chorale members.

JRok: Looking back at those experiences, how do you think you’ve changed as a singer compared to when you first started?

Shamel: At first, I had stage fright, but now I’m slowly overcoming those fears. I’m now confident enough to perform in front of many people. Looking back at those experiences, they remind me to enjoy the moment and always give my best.

JRok: That’s good to know! Who has been your biggest musical influence, and how has that person shaped your singing?

Shamel: My mother has been my biggest musical influence since I was a kid. She would often take me to karaoke, and because of that, I discovered my love for singing. Until now, she has always been there for me and has been my number one supporter.

JRok: It’s great to know that you have such strong support from your mother. What are your future goals and plans for singing? Do you see yourself starting a band or recording your own original songs?

Shamel: For now, I’m a student, and I want to continue improving my singing and gaining more experience as a performer. I also hope to join a band or record my own songs. Most importantly, I want to keep singing because it makes me happy, and it’s what I really love the most.

JRok: Before we end, if it’s okay with you, could you give us a short sample of your singing?

Shamel: Is it okay if I sing a Tagalog song? I’ll just sing a cappella.

JRok: Okay!

Shamel: [Shamel sings.]

JRok: That was a good song! Thank you so much for that sample. You have an amazing voice. Before we end this interview, do you have any social media accounts where we can see you singing?

Shamel: My Facebook is Shamel Grace Pilar.

JRok: Okay, I think that’s it for today. Again, I’m Angel with JRok Music. Thank you so much, Shamel, for being here with us today.

Shamel: Thank you.

JRok: And thanks to everyone for watching. See you in the next interview!

Shamel: Bye-bye! Thank you.
